Labor Day Tile job
Sep. 6th, 2008 10:51 pmLast weekend, I spent Saturday at the New York State Fair with Justin (
boysnightout82), and my non-LJ friend, George. I had a great time, and will write a post about it soon, with lots of pictures. It has been a very busy week, and I still need to catch up with over a week of LJ posts.
On Sunday, I drove up to my camp for a little busman's holiday. Bob and Mike hired me to install Arts & Crafts style tiles around the gas fireplace in the living room at their camp. Some years ago, I had found a handsome and very massive fir mantle in Arts and Crafts style, at a yard sale near Auburn. I bought it, brought it home, and tried to find a buyer for it. It sat in storage at my house for a couple of years. Then my friends, Bob & Mike decided that they needed a mantle for their camp. They eventually decided to buy my mantle, which, though massive, was stylistically a good fit for the camp. They had a gas fireplace installed, and temporarily installed the mantle around it. In July I tiled the hearth as part of a weekend work project, and finished up the tilework last weekend.
