Diogenes, looking for an honest man.
It has come to my attention that my insurance company, State Farm, has been engaging in bad corporate behavior. They have been a major donor to ALEC, the right-wing organization that writes and promotes laws to keep the poor and minorities in subjugation for the benefit of the very wealthy. ALEC is responsible for the law by which George Zimmerman was permitted to stalk and murder Treyvon Martin, an unarmed black teen in Florida. ALEC is currently working hard to get poor people and minorities off the voter rolls to swing the election toward Romney. State Farm was also a major donor to The Heartland Institute, a public relations organization set up by the oil companies to refute and deny global warming. Under pressure, State Farm dropped their support of The Heartland Institute, but they show no signs of dropping their support for ALEC.
State Farm has exhibited a pervasive policy of backing a hard-right-wing agenda. Even though I have been their customer for about 25 years (both home and auto insurance), and like my local State Farm agent very much, I feel that I can no longer condone their reckless radical behavior. So, I am now shopping for a new insurance provider. Insurance companies, like banks, are largely an evil bunch, so I feel a bit like Diogenes here. Can any of you recommend an insurance company that does not engage in bad corporate behavior and does not support right-wing causes?
