restoman: (Christmas tree)
  • This afternoon I was in the car with Mark and John, driving through downtown Syracuse. When we passed the Syracuse War Memorial, an arena for various functions, I pointed out the message on the marquee, which simply said: "Disney on Ice." I quickly added "They must be displaying his cryogenically preserved body to help publicize the movie Saving Mister Banks." I managed to say it with a straight face, and John actually believed me for about 20 seconds. LOL
    ;-)

  • I went to see Saving Mister Banks with George and Gary on the day after Christmas. It was an excellent film and I highly recommend seeing it if you get the chance. Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson and Colin Farrell were all superb in their roles. The story was very well written, and I will admit that I cried during some of the more poignant scenes. Its message about learning to forgive and to make peace with one's past resonated in me. Go see it!

  • I am glad that Christmas is done with for another year. I had a relatively quiet but pleasant Christmas. Mark and I exchanged presents on Christmas Eve. He gave me a "Dremel" tool (actually not the Dremel brand, but one that does all the same grinding/cutting/finishing functions as a Dremel). I have wanted one of these for years, and it was the best present I got this year. On Christmas Day, Mark went with his sisters to spend time with his Mom in Moravia, NY. I went over to George's house to exchange presents with him and Gary and enjoy a Turkey dinner. I made the mashed potatoes, dressing and apple pie for the meal.

  • Two weeks ago I was invited to a Christmas Banquet hosted by a friend/customer of mine. The inside of his Victorian home was decorated in period style with garlands of pine and holly draped over the fireplace mantles and stair railing. The eight-course gourmet meal was accompanied by seven different wines. There were 24 guests, some who had come from as far away as Maryland to attend the banquet. I knew most of them from previous years. The food was amazing with a variety of complex flavors and textures. Dinner started at 5:30, and the second dessert wasn't served until after midnight. The whole evening was amazing.

The wines are in blue, following each dish. Each guest had a nutcracker set by their place at the table. They were the host's gift to each of us.

  • We are continuing to work on the two-family house. The Oak floors in all 4 bedrooms and both hallways are done, as is most of the painting in the bedrooms and hallways. We will start work on the 2 bathrooms this week, installing new tubs, sinks, toilets and tile on floors and walls. The work on the kitchens will come after the bathrooms are done.

  • Adam is still hanging on. He seems to have good days and bad days. He spent almost all of today sleeping on his mattress in the living room. He is still eating and still enjoys affection, but seems to be having a harder time hopping around. He has not come upstairs to my bedroom for several days.

  • Taking advantage of a sale, I bought a new clothes dryer from Sears. When the delivery people brought it on Monday, they got it as far as the kitchen. Then they measured the basement door, and determined that there was NO WAY it would fit through and go down the stairs. I had to cancel the purchase, go back to the store and pick out a different model that was narrow enough to fit through a 27¼ inch door. Of course the one I had to pick was not included in the big "After Christmas Sale" so I wound up paying an additional $270. Grrrrrr! The new dryer is coming tomorrow morning. I hope there won't be any more issues!

  • I hope that all of you had a pleasant Christmas, and will have a Happy and Healthy New Year as well!

    *hugs*
